A lawyer representing the owner of Catz Pyjamas on Monday said the actions of police undermine the public’s trust in them. Officers raided the restaurant in Melville on Saturday morning and were caught on video assaulting customers. Seven people were arrested for defeating the ends of justice but the charges were withdrawn on Monday. Attorney Rudi Heerschop said they may pursue action against the state. “Our feeling at this stage is that most definitely we are going to proceed with action against them for intimidation, assault and wrongful arrest,” said Heerschop. The police’s Lungelo Dlamini has assured the public that the conduct displayed in the video is not a reflection of the entire police service.
